What if what you ate was preventing you from losing weight, no matter how hard you tried?
Over recent years, the identification of what are termed Individual Energy Toxins (IET’s) are becoming more and more recognised as significant causes of weight gain. However, these are not the same as the toxins of conventional medicine. An IET is a normally harmless substance which has an adverse effect on the body’s energy system. These can include certain foods like wheat, milk, corn, eggs, sugar and coffee and inhaled substances like perfume and aftershave. It is important to point out that toxin sensitivity is an individual thing. What is toxic for one individual may be no problem for another — ‘One man’s meat is another’s poison’.
Individual Energy Toxins are not allergies, although like allergies there is no scientific explanation why they should affect one person and not another. Allergies tend to cause swelling of the mouth or airways, skin rashes and sometimes breathing problems. In contrast IET’s tend to cause problems in the digestive tract, so bloating and irritable bowel syndrome tend to be common side effects. Furthermore, in terms of weight gain, people can often be addicted to foods that are IET’s leading to the problem getting bigger- literally.
Over the years, I have dealt with many clients who have no major emotional issues and who do all the right things but still can’t shift the excess weight. The identification of a key IET such as wheat, milk, eggs, coffee and chocolate to name but a few of the most common culprits has made the big difference when removed from the diet. I have even found situations where the diet shake they have been consuming included the very IET that was causing the weight gain, so no wonder they were still unable to lose weight.
Since discovering the importance of IET’s and having been frustrated working with clients who had done all the right things but were still unable to lose weight, only to find out it was an IET that was holding them back, I now test clients up front.
